CD Projekt Red Already Exceeded Its Initial Budget For Cyberpunk 2077 Thanks To Pre-orders

After more than eight years waiting, the release for Cyberpunk 2077 finally arrived this past Thursday, December 10. Although the game was originally scheduled for this April, the Polish developer decided best for the sake of the game to release later in the fall. However, more problems were faced at that time and more delays followed leading to an even later holiday release.

So, of course, the initial budget for the game is expected to also exceed greatly for Cyberpunk 2077 as more than half a year was added on finishing up the game’s development. But though the release arrived on the last month of 2020, the anticipation for the title continued to remain for Cyberpunk 2077 as pre-orders for the game continued to roll in across the globe.

Now in a new report issued directly from corporate CD Projekt Red, the Polish firm discloses that the margins accumulated from pre-orders prior to the game’s release already overthrew the cost to produce Cyberpunk 2077.

Pre-order sales of Cyberpunk 2077 across all of its digital distribution channels have exceeded the sum of the following:

– total development expenditures related to the game, and
– the game’s marketing and promotional costs borne by the Company – either already incurred or anticipated for the remainder of 2020.

While it is suspected that the gross profit earned for Cyberpunk 2077 surely meets the demand that tailed behind the development from CD project Red since 2012, the actual numbers were not provided in the report. However, that number did dodge a bullet following reception of the game’s performance on last-generation hardware. While the new standard is on Xbox Series X|S & PlayStation 5, its predecessors are suffering greatly.

And though CD Projekt Red presented gameplay for the recently shipped title predating its launch, the firm not once issued a presentation of the base Xbox One or PlayStation 4. And users are facing the brunt of it all as many claim online for the game to be virtually unplayable. If made aware of the lackluster outcome for Cyberpunk 2077 on older devices, the new milestone for CD Projekt Red might never occurred.
