During today’s Night City Wire – the Cyberpunk 2077 showcase hosted by the game’s developer CD Projekt Red, the studio alongside featuring the team’s coming project also announced that the series will be expanding to other entertainment mediums for Cyberpunk with a new anime series that will be underway in production for the next year.
The team announces the new animated series in collaboration with Studio Trigger and to be offered through Netflix dubs the new show ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’. While the team’s respected trailer for the game does go on expanding the background of the game and the team responsible for the project, actual footage for the series has unfortunately been left out.

Studio Trigger – the Tokyo-based team responsible for Edgerunners – has worked on previous productions centered around video game animations. Most notably, the team has crunched out scenes for Fire emblem Fates, Indivisible, and Shantae and the Seven Sirens. Outside of video games, the studio has also worked on Steven Universe, Kill La Kill, and OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes.
“CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk,” the synopsis reads in the video’s description.
During the livestream, CD Projekt Red also went to reiterate on the next-generation versions of the game. Confirming both Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 users will be able to upgrade their copies on the respected platform family for free.
