Pushing the capabilities on Nintendo’s handheld console does not seem to be a difficult procedure when looking at games already out for the opposing Xbox One and PlayStation 4. And seeing how the pushing power for the Switch does look to be limited, it is not impossible to master as we have seen from developer CD Projekt Red. The studio has shown the ability to port one of the most demanding games of this generation to Switch by bringing The Witcher 3 almost flawlessly to the Nintendo eShop.

A task that many AAA developers are still facing to be unachievable; the Polish team illustrates that even games to the caliber of their 2015 title can be playable on the Nintendo Switch. However, when it comes to their current project Cyberpunk 2077, that does not look to be a goal that the developer is not striving to achieve later down the line.

According to an interview with GameSpot at last weekend’s PAX Aus in Melbourne, the team would like to see how the game would handle the Switch’s hardware, but ultimately does not show to be a main focus for CD Projekt Red. Speaking with studio head John Mamais who’s studio is based in Poland’s capital, he shares the teams efforts do not look to intend on making a Switch version for next year’s title.

“Who would have thought a game like The Witcher 3 would be possible on Switch, so who knows? I guess we’ll see, if we decide to put it on the Switch, if we can do it. Probably not.”

As of right now, the team is still working on the final product; so chances of a Switch version is not the team’s main priority. Mamais does clarify that CD Projekt Red, just like with Witcher did not think it could make it to Switch, but later did down the line. So the same could be said for Cyberpunk, but that will be discovered if the project could be translated to the Switch’s hardware to the developer’s standards.

Other than discussion of the game possibly hitting the Nintendo Switch, Mamais also talks about multiplayer for the coming sci-fi, first-person shooter. Although not going into full detail, he does share to be interested to the idea of multiplayer in which helps the game expand into multiples installments. Stating that the team would have to see how the game becomes following launch, that will determine what can come from the online portion of the game as time goes on.

The studio head also reaffirms the current structure of additional content from The Witcher 3 and shares that the same can be expected for Cyberpunk. “I don’t see why we wouldn’t try to replicate that model with Cyberpunk 2077.”

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Google Stadia.
