While the initial Final Fantasy IP is what defines the role-playing game genre, publisher Square Enix looks towards new directions for its franchise to enter other genres altogether. So far, the Japanese company already revealed development for a battle royale set within the game’s universe, Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier for mobile platforms. Additionally, Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis was also revealed for mobile as well at the same time.
More recently at this past E3 during the ‘Square Enix Presents’ showcase is where the firm revealed a new take on Final Fantasy once again – Stranger Of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. In collaboration with Team Ninja, players can embark on a new souls-like experience that follows adds more context to the growing Final Fantasy property.
On Thursday at the Nintendo Direct presentation, another entry for Final Fantasy is on the way. But instead, it is a light-hearted kart racer starring some of the series’ most recognized faces. You can watch the reveal trailer for Chocobo GP in the video below:
“Featuring a variety of whimsical characters from across the franchise, players will be able to dash to the finish as the game’s namesake and star, Chocobo and friends. Chocobo GP will challenge racers to master courses from well-known Chocobo and Final Fantasy series locations. Set off on a new journey with Chocobo and friends as they enter a racing tournament to win an unbelievable reward: a wish for anything their heart desires!” Square Enix writes in the press release.
As for other kart racers coming to Nintendo Switch, the beloved Mario Kart 64 is on the way to Nintendo Switch Online. It will be achieved through a new Nintendo 64 virtual library also accompanied by a virtual library for the Sega Genesis. You can read the full report by heading here.
