Chrono Trigger turned 30 years old on March 11, 2025, when it was released for the Super Nintendo in Japan. Since then, the game has been ported and remastered for various platforms, most notable being PlayStation 1, Nintendo DS, PC, and Mobile devices.
Square Enix announced a few weeks ago that they’ll have some celebration for 30 years of Chrono Trigger. What that entails remains to be seen. The developer did mention they’ll be launching “various projects that go beyond the world of games over the coming year.”
It was announced that Chrono Trigger sold over 5 million copies worldwide since it was released.
While the sales may seem low, Chrono Trigger to this day is considered one of the greatest RPGs of its time. Setting a standard for games from that era and beyond. The sales could be higher if Square Enix ever decides to release it on modern platforms like Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
