Over the past few years, the talks of ongoing acquisitions for major platform holders has and continues to be a large talking point. From Microsoft’s dealing to purchase Zenimax Media to Sony Interactive Entertainment buying out Insomniac Games, Bluepoint Games, and Haven Entertainment Studios, there is continued conversations on future candidates. It is no secret currently that Microsoft has its crosshairs on Activision Blizzard costing the Xbox firm roughly $70 billion.
And while the deal is still developing in courts in multiple continents, it faces new obstacles. Already, it is no secret that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is filing a lawsuit on the acquisition. Not to mention the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is suggesting piecing apart the deal for it to process with Call of Duty removed entirely. Not to mention the set commandments PlayStation has for its approval of the deal to be fulfilled.
Recently, new claims online told that the PlayStation firm has another response to Microsoft’s wallet: buying Take-Two Interactive. Similar to Xbox with Bethesda, PlayStation’s relationship with the Rockstar Games/2K parent company is cordial with established marketing deals and arrangement. The alleged acquisition would be of similar caliber to the current Activision purchase.
However, Bloomberg Tech reporter Jason Schreier took to Twitter with one post denouncing the claims. While he does acknowledge the ongoing chatter on the possibility, he dismantled the rumor posting of the initial claim with other suggested acquisition opportunities PlayStation that leaker @LumberjackRy made previously.
Noted, the leaker while shown to bring possible PlayStation acquisition candidates out of proportion mentioning publishers such as Square Enix, Ubisoft, and Embracer, he has offered accurate tips on the current whereabouts of Sony Interactive Entertainment in the past. Prior to the world-shaking announcement for Bungie joining PlayStation Studios, the leaker noted the deal ahead of time.
Additionally, @LumberjackRy was also correct on the acquisition of Jade Raymond’s Haven Entertainment Studios as well which took place last year. So while Schreier does denounce the current Take-Two Interactive statement from the leaker, he has show to be reputable in some instances which should not be overshadowed by the recent exchange on Twitter.
What do you believe to be the new potential acquisition planned for PlayStation?
