In just over a month or so, Capcom has shared to be expanding the Resident Evil universe in a new approach: film and television. While the series has migrated to the entertainment medium in the past, the publisher looks to re-up on its initial take on the two decade-old franchise with new content for fans to anticipate.

In late August, Capcom and Netflix announced a new live-action television series based on the Resident Evil property. The second announcement took place just about a week ago where another partnership with Netflix will bring a new film to the platform, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness.

Now in a new report from Deadline, Constantin Films is set to being working on a new Resident Evil live-action production. In that, it is told that 47 Meters Deep Director Johannes Roberts will be at the helm for the untitled Resident Evil movie. Told by Roberts himself, the new film is to be a definitive take on the classic game series.

With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences.
