Control’s AWE Story Expansion Bridges The Game With The Alan Wake Universe, Shipping In Late August

Dating back to March of this year, PlayStation 4 and Epic Games Store users pressed forward with the expansive universe of Remedy Entertainment’s Control with The Foundation story add-on shipping for both platforms. It was discovered at the time of reporting that the downloadable content for the studio’s latest project would be unique to both platforms until late June where the expansion would then ship to Xbox One.

Leaving room for more, fans finishing the first DLC then awaited to learn of the enigmatic second story expansion, AWE. During today’s State of Play presentation, Remedy Entertainment finally unveiled the new add-on coming to control – sharing that the new experience will be shipping in late August.

You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:

“Short for Altered World Event, which occur when paranatural forces breach our world. Sometimes, AWEs are minor and go unnoticed,” Remedy Entertainment shares in a blog post. “However, sometimes AWEs cause catastrophic events. Historically, the Investigations Sector was where the Federal Bureau of Control’s dangerous work of searching for AWE cases was coordinated from, and where evidence was stored… until things went horribly, horribly wrong, and the sector was sealed off years ago.

“Director Jesse Faden has to enter the sector to chase down a mysterious being that’s been stalking this long-abandoned area for years. In order to reclaim the Investigations Sector from the clutches of this creature of darkness, Jesse will need to explore the numerous Altered World Events investigated here, including one from the town of Bright Falls.” Derived from the mentioned setting of the AWE, it directly references the placement of Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake – the titular protagonist who is presented at the end of the trailer.

I addition to the new basis for AWE, the arcade cabinet present is shared to offer the ability to play some of the most climatic moments of the base campaign. Players can also find a new “stick grenade launcher”-like Service Weapon alongside the shotgun equipped foe, Hiss Airborne Ranger. Alike with The Foundation, it is presumed the add-on will be unique to PlayStation 4 & PC for a brief time before arriving to Xbox later on.
