Cyberpunk 2077 Has Already Surpassed 13 Million Copies Sold, And That’s After Counting Returns Too

Given the amount of hype and excitement that followed behind CD Project Red and the release of Cyberpunk 2077, it is no question that the game would arrive with the margins for the development costs to be shattered shortly after hitting store shelves. And just that happened thanks to the pre-orders alone. The Polish game studio disclosed pre-purchase payments already made the different for the development of the base game.

However, it was hardly a week that the game started to face a large withdrawal of its user base as many demanded refunds for its poor condition on the last-generation consoles. Even more, Sony Interactive Entertainment decided to pull the plug for the game on the PlayStation Store until “further notice” expecting the game to face extensive revising to meet the expectations marketed for the title.

But even then, the firm still walks away with a new milestone in the first month of release. According to a new report issued by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 has already surpassed 13 million copies sold.

Based on reports obtained from digital distribution platforms and data collected from physical distributors, it estimates that by 20 December inclusive gamers have purchased over 13 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077. This figure represents the estimated volume of retail sales across all hardware platforms (factoring in returns submitted by retail clients in brick-and-mortar as well as digital storefronts), i.e. the “sell-through” figure.

And yes, your read that right, the tallied 13 million sold units for Cyberpunk 2077 is factored in even after the mass returns demanded from consumers. So while the game and more so the development team faces flak for the lack of transparency leading up to the game’s release, Cyberpunk 2077 is still one of the top grossing releases to arrive this year.

In addition to the statement recently, there is also a problem that has surfaced for some PC users. While there is not game-breaking issues that can be found on older consoles, there is a new bug that configures save data to be unplayable after exceeding 8 MB. However, there is a guide on how to avoid this glitch for the game which you can read by heading here.
