At least in hindsight, it is understandable why Activision/Infinity Ward decided to remaster the first two Call of Duty: Modern Warfare titles: the games are byproducts of what many consider the golden age for the overall franchise. However, fueled by nostalgia, the overall IP still performs as good or even better. But, the returning to the 2008 & 2010 releases does bring excitement to the player base regardless.
However, the latest ended up leaving more disappointment than anything to say the least. In that, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered shipped with campaign and multiplayer, the same did not occur when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered dropped. To further deepen the wound, Infinity Ward confirmed no plans to support an online component for the game.
And while that dream is left to die now, new hopes for the remastered treatment to come to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is now being publicly executed as well. In a statement to Charlie Intel, an Activision spokesperson verifies that there is no plans for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Remastered following lingering claims online.
“A remaster of Modern Warfare 3, campaign or multiplayer, does not exist. Any reports otherwise are incorrect.” With the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered releasing just close to a year now, perhaps the project is still in its infancy. But currently, Activision discloses that it does not exist to any degree nonetheless.
What plans are confirmed for the Call of Duty franchise so far for 2021 is the developer as of yet. In that, developer Sledgehammer Games after returning to being a support studio is back to helm the next entry for the franchise. There is no official word on what the game will be centered around or when it will ship aside from the expected 2021 arrival. You can read the full report by heading here.
