Today with the arrival of Destiny 2’s Shadowkeep, the fourth expansion for the 2017 title as well as the first piece of story-extended content for the game without the overarching publisher Activision involved has released for all major platforms. And with the game also expected to release alongside Google Stadia this November, the plans ahead for the studio looks to already be shared for Bungie.

According to an interview with IGN, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons told the video game outlet this week that the team is planning to take on new challenges towards becoming a more impactful developer by the middle of the 2020s. Despite the assumed hardship of shipping a new expansion for Destiny 2 now as an independent studio, Parsons brushes off the implication to be a “bright shining spot” for Bungie to bring more content to the committed players.

“Our vision ultimately through 2025 is to become one of the world’s best entertainment companies,” Parsons giving a synopsis of the company’s goals. One initiative Parson plans to take for the future of the studio is to “transform” Destiny to what the team initially envisioned the series to be. However, he also enlightens on what else is to come from the team aside from Destiny.

So, by 2025 we have a pretty specific path to make sure we transform Destiny and that we have other franchises within the marketplace.

Parsons then goes on to disclose that the team would put efforts towards building a publishing group for current and upcoming projects: emphasizing that “our vision [Bungie] is also to become a multi-franchise entertainment company.” While the developer does share interest in expanding to different IPs within the next couple of years, new properties from the team is not fresh information.

Dating back to a year ago last September, it was unearthed by a ResetEra poster that a new trademark filed by Bungie something unrelated to the then and still current Destiny 2. Disclosing ‘Matter’, the new trademark read to be “Computer game software.” Revealing a new project was in the making. However, this was filed during the developer’s time with Activision, so that leaves the question of how the project will unravel when it comes time to release in the future.

Although there is that grey area with Matter, this also occurred after Bungie’s investment partnership with Chinese video game company NetEase. So the project could have more flexibility if properly executed with the Chinese partner. The company has previously acquired a small portion of Quantic Dream, which later led to a multiplatform release of previous PlayStation exclusive titles.

What do you think of bungie’s upcoming plans for the studio?
