When it comes to PlayStation firmware updates, Sony Interactive Entertainment wastes no time to integrate new features for the latest PlayStation 5. Already, some of the most highly-requested features are on PlayStation 5. For instance, the ability to utilize variable refresh rate (VRR) for supported displays is already available.

Not to mention the same technology taking advantage of 1440p support as well for other monitors as well. As for other promised features, the PlayStation firm already addressed that Discord Voice is on the way. The PlayStation 5 beta program already bridged the service for the console in the past.

Now this week Discord Voice officially comes to PlayStation 5. Noted, there is still no word if the same attention to detail will be prepared for PlayStation 4 just yet.

You can now join Discord voice chats on your PS5 console and easily chat with friends on most other gaming platforms. To start, link your Discord and PlayStation Network accounts from your PS5 console, PlayStation.com, or the Discord app on Windows, Mac or mobile device following these steps. Then, use the Discord app on your mobile device or computer to get a Discord voice chat going on your PS5 console (make sure your Discord app is updated to the latest version). You can also let your Discord friends see when you’re online and what you’re playing.

“If you’ve linked your PlayStation Network and Discord accounts in the past to display what game you’re playing, you’ll need to link your accounts again to grant the new permissions needed for Discord voice chat,” the blog post elaborates. “If you participated in the system software beta and have already linked your accounts during the beta period, you don’t need to link them again.”

Additionally, 1440p VRR support is also available as well combining both features for the specific resolution output. “You can now enjoy smoother visual performance when using a VRR-compatible HDMI 2.1 display at 1440p resolution, when playing a game that supports VRR. We’ve also made some updates to the parameters of the PS5 console’s 1440p output test, enabling 1440p support for a wider range of HDMI displays.”

Furthermore, other features that arrived in this new patchwork includes Screen Share request, Party Chat join icon, new ‘Friends Who Play’ tile, manual capture upload to the PlayStation app, game library sorting enhancements, multiplayer session game preset preferences, save migration & data transfer from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, and wireless DualSense controller update functionality.
