In the current conversation for id Software’s Doom, the first-person shooter series currently dominates the talking space with its latest rebooted entry, Doom Eternal. However, the latest duo of rebooted titles are not the first sampling from the Bethesda studio retelling the universe of Doom. In actuality, that is Doom 3. While disclosed to being a prequel to the inaugural 1993 release, many still view the game as a retelling of the story.
Last mentioned of Doom 3 as of recent, id Software prepared remastered versions for the original Doom trilogy to modern consoles. That alongside the Nintendo 64 exclusive Doom 64 breaking its ties to the titular console, players can now enjoy the lineage of entries on its platform of choice.
In a new announcement this past week, Doom 3 makes its way back onto the headlines with Doom 3: VR Edition. Noted, it includes all DLC and will only be available for PlayStation VR. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:
“Feel even closer to the terror with all-new VR enhancements that allow you to peer around corners, angling your shots with flashlight-mounted weapons using motion controls, 180-degree quick-turn functionality to catch demons sneaking up from behind and an immersive wrist-mounted display to track your health, armor and ammo,” Parker Wilhelm, Bethesda Associate Content Manager explains.
“Combined with the original Doom 3’s critically acclaimed blend of action and horror gameplay, virtual reality fans are in for one Hell of an experience with Doom 3: VR Edition.” Previously, word broke that id Software was working on a new virtual reality experience for this year and this might be it. Leaked through a rating in Australia, the project dubbed ‘Project 2021A’ insists a game arriving this year. It is undetermined exactly if this is the aforementioned title or something else entirely.
As for other games hitting PlayStation VR as of late, Minecraft received a port just this past September. The game is treated as an expansion of the original PlayStation 4 version and will not be an additional purchase to play with the peripheral. You can read the full report by heading here.
