It has been almost two years since we got our first hands on with LawBreakers at PAX Prime 2015 on PC. Fast forward time to E3 2017 we have now experienced the up and coming Arena Shooter on PlayStation 4.
For those unaware, LawBreakers is the latest title from Cliff Bleszinski, most known for his work on the legendary Gears of War series. Instead of making another 3rd person shooter, he instead opted to create a new FPS with a focus on competition in gravity defying arena battles. We got the chance to play one of the 3 currently announced modes called Blitzball today and had a ton of fun with our 15 minute session.
Blitzball – Players team up to fight for the EURO (Emotionally Unstable Robotic Orb) in order to bring it to the enemy team’s base and pass it through their terminal to score a point. Along the way, the EURO can be passed through a neutral terminal to charge it up for two additional points. When times up, the team with the most points wins the match.
This, like the other 2 modes, places a huge emphasis on teamwork and coordination to retrieve the Blitzball and bring it to the enemy base. For those familiar with the Halo series, this plays just like Neutral Bomb with the ball placed in the center of the map. However, this game offers much more varied traversal methods that allow you to move around the map with ease. There is also a wide variety of character classes that all require you to learn and master their mechanics, with a playstyle for everyone.
Since we had previously played this title on PC with mouse and keyboard at prior events, we wanted hands on with the PlayStation 4 version. Some might argue that mouse and keyboard is the ultimate combo for precision, although for those of us who prefer console controllers, we can say that it plays great with the DualShock 4. Any fans looking to pick this game up on PS4 should be relieved to hear that it plays and runs great on the console.
LawBreakers launches August 8th on Steam and PlayStation 4 for $29.99 and has no pay to win elements!
E3 2017 – LawBreakers is a great addition to PlayStation 4
