Closing today’s E3 Nintendo Direct was an announcement that many didn’t think would happen yet. A sequel to the critically acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was confirmed to be in development for the Nintendo Switch through a short teaser. As the original was also made for the Wii U, this will be the first 3D Zelda game on the Nintendo Switch. The teaser shows Link and Zelda exploring a mysterious location together, implying that she may actually play a much larger role in this game. It would be a dream come true to have her as a companion throughout the game, or better yet, as a playable character. This appears to be a direct sequel, but as for how the story will play out remains to be seen. If we had to speculate, this won’t launch until Holiday 2020, but nothing is concrete yet. Until then, we’ll have to dissect the teaser that we were given.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently available for Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
