Yes, you read that correctly. EA does NOT want to charge for DLC for its current Need for Speed reboot. For a company that has literally made its living off of charging customers for extra content, EA is breaking from the mold here with Need for Speed.
In a recent interview with Vice, Craig Sullivan the Creative Director stated that
“Honestly, hand on heart, there are absolutely no plans to charge for content in this game. We’re going to give you everything for free. I’ve seen the plans for what’s going to happen over the next few weeks and months – there’s nothing in there. The plan is that there are no transactions in this game. All of the content that we’re going to give you – a pretty substantial amount in the future, starting pretty soon – is going to be free. That’s what players deserve.”
We’ll have to wait to see if this really comes true as it is EA after all, but hey, at least it’s good to see that the initial round of roll out DLC will be free for Need for Speed. We mentioned on the air during Tuesday’s show that this reboot got a grade of “must play” for us as it brings home the true feel of what an arcade racer should be. What do you guys think?
