In a financial report from publisher Electronic Arts, the earnings call gave early insight on the coming of two franchise returns this year with Need for Speed and Plants Vs. Zombies aimed for a “Q3 2019” release later this Fall. Regarding what the two titles might be for the game’s basis was not revealed at the time.
Leading up to this year’s E3, EA shared that the anticipated announcement for the next Need for Speed installment will not be present at the event in June. Sharing that the game will standout primarily in celebration for the franchise’s 25th anniversary, the developer is expecting this coming title to be one that will make fans surely excited to return to the series once again.
Now today, Electronic Arts alongside PopCap Games officially revealed Plants Vs. Zombies 3 and dropped the game the same day as well, sort of. The third in the series is available through a pre-alpha on mobile that a selection of players will be able to access. To download the early access test, simply go to the game’s page on Google Play here and download it for free.
However, EA did detail that limited spots are currently available in the pre-alpha, so if you miss out, you will have to try again at another time and hopefully squeeze your way into a reserved spot. The initiative for the playtest is to get players who enjoy the series to give feedback and better the game during development as the title still has plenty of work to be done on.
For what machines precisely will be supported, EA clarified that any device that is a Galaxy S7 or newer that at least has Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) will be eligible to play the work-in-progress title. The publisher disclosed that support for Apple iOS devices are not currently available.
The announcement post brushes up on some burning questions fans might be asking; sharing that progress could potentially reset as the game is still in development with the pre-alpha. Other answers read that content from preceding Plants Vs. Zombies 2 will still be available for the coming title. One interesting remark from the post states that “There are no microtransactions during Pre-Alpha,” which only leaves the implication that some pay feature will be implemented at a later stage of the game’s development.
Plants Vs. Zombies 3 is currently in pre-alpha with no official release date slated.
