Although Battlefield has been in an unfortunate spot for the past few releases, many fans were hoping the next major installment would center around a polished launch to rekindle the flame of prior entries. But came Battlefield 2042, the underwhelming state of the game left players unsatisfied with issues afloat and little promise for the future of the series. Reports surfaced even blaming the early success of Halo Infinite at one point.
Since then, a power shift in leadership has occurred with career developer Oskar Gabrielson departing from his role at general manager. Since then, Respawn Entertainment & DICE LA (now Ripple Effect Studios) head to helm the series. Additionally, Marcus Lehto originally noted for co-creating Halo opened a new team in Seattle to draft the next story for Battlefield with Ridgeline Games last fall.
According to a new statement from Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson, the publisher is in full support of the leadership at DICE as it plans to reinvigorate Battlefield with the next entry underway. From Gamesradar+, Wilson made this statement during the earnings call: “our ability to bring Battlefield back in an entirely new way in the future.”
He adds, “[I have] extraordinary confidence in that team and extraordinary confidence in the progress they’re making against the future of that franchise.” The comments do come at a better time despite how many view the franchise from afar. Reports following launch did share potentially transitioning Battlefield 2042 to free-to-play to accommodate for the lost momentum the game faced.
Even more, this past winter was harsh on Battlefield as well. The series was enroute for a mobile release in the near future and the game was canceled in the midst of development. The announcement came the same time as the closure for Apex Legends Mobile also. You can read the full report by heading here.
