It was just a couple weeks ago that we got wind of yet another annual installment for Electronic Arts’ Madden series. During the first issue of the Xbox 20/20 monthly initiative, EA Sports during one segment of the online show shared a trailer of in-engine renders for Madden NFL 21 with Kansas City Quarterback and Superbowl LVI champion Patrick Mahomes to share the news.
During the brief showcase, it was told that the expected sports title would be available for players to install for Xbox Series X via smart delivery. However, it was revealed in a press release elsewhere that owners of the game on Xbox One can only grab the free download until March 31, 2021 which is very misleading to the initial statement.
Now this past week, EA Sports told to be showing off the game this coming Monday June 1st, but that is not the case anymore. The firm decided to postpone the news in support of the protests that have erupted this past week across the United States.
“We stand with our African American / Black community of friends, players, colleagues and partners,” the company shared in the recent letterhead. “We’ll find another time to talk football with you. Because this is bigger than a game, bigger than sports, and needs all of us to stand together and commit change.”
It shouldn’t be a secret that many individuals in major U.S. cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta are out in protest for the death of George Floyd. This past Tuesday on May 26, four Minneapolis Police Officers were found responsible for the death of Floyd as Officer Derek Chauvin put his weigh on Floyd’s neck for over eight minutes, two minutes of that he was unconscious.
It was later that same day that Floyd was diagnosed dead and Chauvin alongside the three involved officers were relieved of their positions with the Minneapolis Police Department. But despite their terminations, citizens are enraged and demand they be trailed and convicted for the death of Floyd. Many Americans have went to practice in the protest by attacking commercial buildings and retaliating against police enforcement.
EA Sports and Electronic Arts have yet to disclose when the rescheduled showcase will take place now that tomorrow’s virtual event has been postponed due to the situation.
