While developer FromSoftware remained extremely quiet for the majority of the development for Elden Ring, the post-launch for the game has only been about the game throughout the industry. From our review of the game alone, Michael Merchant wrote “Elden Ring is a game that you aren’t rushing to see the ending. You will want to take your time exploring the absolute gem that FromSoftware has created.”

In the aftermath of the release for the game, you can go anywhere to see the amount of excitement for the game from people with hands-on footage to livestreams. Additionally reviews are also staggering extremely high as well from outlets all over. It was reported from gamesindustry.biz head Chris Dring that the game is one of the most impactful games to hit the U.K. and NPD Group determining its the most successful game of 2022 so far.

From Bandai Namco in a new press release, the Japanese publisher reveals Elden Ring has officially sold more than 12 million copies within its first month – and it has still yet to full meet a full moon rotation. This record can be measured to Cyberpunk 2077 which sold 13 million in the same amount of time – even after the mass returns for the game.

Co-development between FromSoftware and BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment has brought about the brand new action RPG, “ELDEN RING,” which has surpassed 12M units in sales worldwide. I would like to use this opportunity to give my thanks to all our fans who have brought “ELDEN RING” into their gaming life.

I am very proud to have been involved in bringing such a wonderful and fantastic game to life with FromSoftware, under the guidance of Director Miyazaki, and with George R. R. Martin. Much effort was placed into creating “ELDEN RING” so that we could exceed the expectations of our fans worldwide.

In like manner, we will continue our efforts in expanding the brand beyond the game itself, and into everyone’s daily life. We will continue to create enjoyment and fulfillment through entertainment, so that we can come closer and connect to our fans around the world.

Yasuo Miyakawa, Bandai Namco Entertainment President & CEO

“It’s astonishing to see just how many people have been playing ‘Elden Ring.’ I’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire development team. ‘Elden Ring’ is based on a mythological story written by George R. R. Martin,” FromSoftware President & CEO Hidetaka Miyazaki shared. “We hope players enjoy a high level of freedom when adventuring through its vast world, exploring its many secrets and facing up to its many threats.”

To add more perspective to the success of Elden Ring, Niko Partners analyst David Ahmad on Twitter gives a larger view on the matter. He explained that the Souls genre has evolved in popularity with the latest release. The original Dark Souls trilogy did not reach the same number in sales until the third game of the three.

More eye-opening is the one statement elsewhere in the press release from Bandai Namco. “Please look forward to more of ‘Elden Ring’ as an IP (characters and other intellectual property) in hopes of expanding beyond the realm of games.” So potential adaptations to film/television or books are on the way as well!
