After the releases of Star Wars Battlefront & Star Wars Battlefront II, the two games proved to be devastating to Lucasfilm & Disney. And despite the later hallmark that was Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn Entertainment, that was not enough for Lucasfilms Games to be established. The new label welcomed new teams to the Star Wars IP outside of Electronic Arts. At the time, Massive Entertainment (The Division 2) was said to work on an open-world RPG.
Despite the decision, Lucasfilms Games did confirm that it will still work with Electronic Arts on new projects. However, nothing has yet to be disclosed since the initial statement. Events went on to reveal that Aspyr is working on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake and the latest announcement of Star Wars: Eclipses being curated by Quantic Dream.
After roughly a year since Lucasfilms Games was founded, Electronic Arts announces there are three new games on the way in terms of the Star Wars license. Two of the three titles are said to be helmed by Respawn Entertainment.
Respawn Entertainment, best known for their work on Apex Legends, Titanfall and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, is leading the development and production of these new projects. Vince Zampella, Group GM and Founder of Respawn, will oversee this new phase of EA’s relationship with Lucasfilm, building on Respawn’s award-winning history in game development and expertise in telling compelling Star Wars stories.
Game Director Stig Asmussen and his team at the studio are already working on the next game in the action adventure Star Wars Jedi series, and are joined by two new teams working to deliver additional unique Star Wars gameplay experiences across multiple genres. Leading the development of Respawn’s all-new Star Wars first-person shooter game is Peter Hirschmann, Game Director at Respawn, who has a long and accomplished history with the Star Wars franchise.
The third title is a Star Wars strategy game developed through a production collaboration with the newly formed studio Bit Reactor, helmed by games industry veteran Greg Foerstch. Respawn will produce the new Star Wars strategy game while Bit Reactor leads on the development of the title.
“Working with Lucasfilm Games on a new FPS in the Star Wars galaxy is a dream come true for me, as this is a story I have always wanted to tell,” Peter Hirschmann, Respawn Entertainment game director shared. Studio head Vince Zampella adds, “We are huge fans of Star Wars here at Respawn and we’re thrilled to work with Lucasfilm Games on new titles that we have wanted to make for years. If you want to make great Star Wars games, you should come join us on our journey.”
Recently, the sequel Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orden was reported to being releasing this year. With May the 4th coming later this spring, there is the potential the game will be revealed similar to how much of the game was unveiled for the original entry years prior.
