Despite the heavy competition against Epic Games’ Fortnite and the more recent Warzone from Infinity Ward, Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends have continued to progressively increase in player activity since its initial inception. While the initial attention of the game did fall off following its launch in February 2019, more players have continued to pour into game lobbies with more content arriving to the game.
Back in January, publisher Electronic Arts shared in its quarterly financial report that Apex Legends faced a new high in concurrent players with the release of Season 3 ‘Meltdown’ introducing World’s Edge and hacker Legend Crypto. The same time, Respawn Entertainment also broke expectations elsewhere with the then-recently released Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Now a similar tune is played regarding the recent release of Season 5 ‘Fortune’s Favor’ which debuted earlier this month. Electronic Arts in a new press release states that the latest content season has witnessed a new influx of players never recorded before.
Apex Legends Season 5 – Fortune’s Favor has quickly become the best start of any season to date. More new players are coming into the game and along with returning fans, it has driven the highest player retention for a season launch, with players playing for longer periods of time per day than ever before.
Not only did Season 5 reshape the look of inaugural map King’s Canyon, it also debuted a new segment of questlines for players to uncover the lore for Apex Legends as well. Players who collect Treasure Packs when playing online will be granted to this new string of objective-based missions to perform once a day.
Following the release for Fortune’s Favor, Electronic Arts shared that Respawn Entertainment will be opening a second studio in Vancouver. Even more, the firm disclosed that the second team will consist of a smaller collection of developers at first dedicated to work on Apex Legends. You can read the full report by heading here.
