Electronic Arts To Continue Its Deal With Star Wars-licensed Games, Lucasfilms Games Has More Announcements Leading Into 2022

For those that might have missed today’s enormous announcement from Lucasfilms Games, the license bearer announced another partnership – this time with Ubisoft. Going into detail, the group will be collaborating with Massive Entertainment, the team responsible for The Division, as the new project is said to be in its early phases of development. While little is said to elaborate on the title, Wired that transcribed the reveal told the game is an open-world experience.

But what opened eyes for those that learned of today’s announcement is that Electronic Arts is not involved with the project. This comes to be an oddity as the publisher curated a licensing deal with Disney in 2013 to develop and publish Star Wars-licensed titles for a full decade – which is to end in 2023. But following today’s announcement, it is presumed the lineage ends for more Electronic Arts Star Wars games.

However, that is on the contrary. Instead, there is more that is to be underway now with Electronic Arts & Lucasfilms Games now hand-at-hand. In a new blog post, Lucasfilms Games issues that these announcements are just the start with more to come in the coming months.

We’re really proud of the games we have created with EA. We will continue working with them and our relationship has never been stronger. While we may not have a lot of details to share at the moment, we’ve got a number of projects underway with the talented teams at EA.

Douglas Reilly, Vice President of Lucasfilms Games

Even more, Electronic Arts went to Twitter to even clarify itself that new games are still on the horizon. Already anticipating that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is receiving a sequel later down the line, the statement does suggest other projects could manifest as well, but it is hard to determine what else is underway. “We’re making more Star Wars games,” the firm posted in the tweet.

The announcements planned from Lucasfilms Games outside of Electronic Arts is told to be long, thought out projects that the firm is preparing to unveil well into the coming year. “This is really the culmination of years of preparing to come out and say, ‘We’re here, we’ve got a team of people, we’re going to make a lot of great games, and here’s some new things you weren’t expecting from us to do that we’re now starting to do,’” Reilly explains.

“And that’s going to continue throughout the next year or so, where we’re going to continue to announce projects that are more representative of the legacy of the old Lucasfilm Games that we’re now trying to live up to.” Since the opening of Lucasfilms Games on Monday, the group already made three impactful announcements.

On Tuesday, the firm issued a teaser for a new Indiana Jones game. More interesting is that MachineGames, responsible for the rebooted Wolfenstein franchise is helming development for the new experience. You can read the full report by heading here.
