Epic Games Store Accumulates $680 Million From Player Transactions In 2019, Firm Plans To Continue Free Games

It has been more than a year since the announcement of Epic Games’ same-named video game storefront Epic Games Store, and the launcher has been through quite the roller coaster of events leading into 2020. Users across the internet condemning Epic Games’ new store as players would have to either purchase their anticipated titles on the retailer or wait until the respected project would arrive on other platforms.

Titles like the long-awaited Borderlands 3 and Metro Exodus are some of the bevy that were met with the limited exclusivity deals that only fueled the hatred for the Epic Games Store from devoted Steam users. Taking the highly negative connotation that circulates the storefront, you would assume that the service would tank in competition with other leading platforms, right? According to a new report, Epic Games Store is doing the complete opposite.

In an article penned over on gamesindustry.biz, Epic Games has accumulated over 680 million dollars USD within the first year of its commencement. The company acknowledges that a good chunk of the revenue is sourced from the always flourishing in popularity battle royale Fortnite, but Epic Games clarifies that roughly $251 million has been spent towards third-party software.

Even more, Epic Games exceeds the initial promise that was made gifting a free game every two weeks as the website states that about 73 titles have been gifted since December of last year. The company witnessing the popularity of the freebee program announces that Epic Games will continue the initiative with a free game now in a weekly rotation.

Leading more into the new decade, Epic Games Store looks to only continue to grow in such a short amount of time amid other popular retailers. Citing to account for 108 million users on the platform, it is expected for that number to resume growth as the future unfolds for Epic Games.
