For the past few months if you haven’t noticed already, many users on PC specifically have been divided between which digital game storefront should be better of the two: Steam or Epic Games Store. While most are conditioned to Steam since the platform being the most popular for nearly a decade now, Epic Games have suddenly joined in just last year which have really unsettled countless players on Steam.
This mainly sourced from the sudden amount of timed exclusives that have emerged on the new store platform that many users on Steam don’t agree with. The most recent occurrence with the announcement of Borderlands 3 being exclusive to the Epic Games Store a year before releasing on Steam.
But according to Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeny, if Steam reduces the sale cut from 30 % to 12% like Epic Games, then he will pull back from exclusives on the Epic Games Store.
If Steam committed to a permanent 88% revenue share for all developers and publishers without major strings attached, Epic would hastily organize a retreat from exclusives (while honoring our partner commitments) and consider putting our own games on Steam.

Sweeny shared this through Twitter in response to a question directed to him about exclusives on his platform. Regardless of the statement making an impact or not on Steam, it doesn’t look likely that that Valve will take the initiative to lower the amount the company collects from publishers.
It’s worth noting that Steam is just one of the handful of other companies that do the same practice right next to Microsoft as well as Sony on their respected platforms also.
