For the past few years, developer Fabraz has delivered new hallmarks in the platformer genre. In this new resurgence, titles like Demon Turf is one easy to reflect upon in the 2020s. In 2021, the game extended its reach with more for players including an update introducing a level builder for players to flex creative & speedrun itches for the time being.
Then in 2022, Fabraz also went ahead delivering an addition standalone experience – Demon Turf: Neon Splash as well. Since then, the developer has been quietly tinkering away at a new project internally – Project Tides. While there has been small glimpses at the progress on this new codenamed effort, the biggest takeaway is the team now fully embracing 3D for this new title.
On Wednesday, Fabraz went ahead announcing Demon Tides. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:
“Navigate the open seas and explore each distant structure, uncovering every hidden nook and cranny with your diverse, expressive move-set. Beat challenges or find hidden chests to collect talismans along the way that modify and even expand your abilities or switch up your drip with a plethora of discoverable outfits!”, the overview on the Steam page reads.
The official Steam post also elaborates that this new game does not require playing Demon Turf prior to Demon Tides. “In fact, we encourage new players to jump right into Demon Tides! It takes place after Demon Turf’s story but is designed for new players to jump right in with a brand new narrative and world to explore.” The team also went ahead offering a definition for this new ‘expressive platformer’.
“A platformer with a lot of combinatorial depth, allowing you to express yourself through the game’s movement. Meaning a gap can be crossed in a multitude of creative ways! We’re pushing the concept of this subgenre to new limits with an incredibly deep, combinatorial move-set that can even be heavily customized!”
