Far Cry 6 Receives Prequel Comic Series, Far Cry: Rite of Passage, Arriving In May

Looking to what Ubisoft had in store for 2021, the year was initially planned to kick off with a bang in February with the scheduled release of Far Cry 6. Starring Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Madalorian) and Anthony Gonzalez (Coco), the newest entry returns to the tropics with Cuban-inspired region, Yara.

But, it was that coming October in 2020 that Ubisoft dropped the ball on having a late winter release for Far Cry 6. While not entirely providing a reason for the decision, Ubisoft retracted the February release date and leaves the game undetermined for its retail release for 2021. So, players eager to play are left to wait until Ubisoft flags the OK to lunch Far Cry 6.

In the meantime, Ubisoft in collaboration with Dark Horse Comics announces a three-issue comic series set before the events of Far Cry 6, ‘Far Cry: Rite of Passage’.

Thanks to a wonderful collaboration with Dark Horse, we are thrilled to share with our fans the very first Far Cry comic series. Through Bryan and Geraldo’s amazing work, we’ll get a fresh look into our beloved villains’ dark pasts. We can’t wait for everyone to fall down this rabbit hole with us.

Marie Joelle-Paquin, Far Cry Product Director

“Far Cry: Rite of Passage is a gritty tale of the intricate road that leads to the ascension to power,” the overview for the comic series reads. “The story kicks off as President Antón Castillo’s only son, Diego, has just turned thirteen. But this birthday is more than a celebration—it’s a rite of passage. Antón wishes to teach Diego important lessons in leadership and recounts cautionary tales he has heard about the undoing of three legendary men: Vaas Montenegro, a pirate, Pagan Min, a dictator, and Joseph Seed, a preacher.”

The project is said to be comprised of a handful of talent for Far Cry: Rite of Passage – American Carnage’s Bryan Edward Hill to write, Nova’s Geraldo Borges to illustrate, Halo: Escalation’s Micheal Atiyeh to color, and Overwatch’s Comicraft to letter.

Similarly, Apex Legends is also getting the same comic treatment with a partnership with Dark Horse Comics. Announcing Apex Legends: Overdrive, the series is to be a limited, four issue strip that kicks off with issue #1 later in June. You can read the full report by heading here.
