Back in 2015 Gearbox Studios released Borderlands: The Handsome Collection which included both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Oddly enough the two game collection didn’t have a next gen version of the original 2009 title to make a trio of Gearbox titles. Despite the game’s absence, nothing really happened following the bundle’s release for the first game.
More recently though, the first title appeared on the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee which is rated for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Named ‘Borderlands: Game of the Year’, the game originally surfaced back in May when the game was rated for current generation consoles on Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee. The listing continues by identifying the current studio working on the title as Blind Squirrel Entertainment.
For those less familiar with the Santa Ana studio, the developer has previously helped work on Sunset Overdrive, Mafia 3, and even Borderlands 2. To reassure fans who might feel worried about how the original title being reworked for current gen titles, Blind Squirrel previous worked on The Bioshock Collection if that helps at all.
For any further detail on the game, there isn’t much else to expand on. Seeing how the unannounced game’s relevancy only resurfaced due to the game now being listed in Taiwan, the expectancy for the game to launch is hard to determine. At this rate currently, we could see the game’s official release by next year possibly.
Borderlands: Game of the Year currently does not have a specified release window, but is listed for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
