At the time of rising tension that surrounded the growing pandemic that is the novel coronavirus, organizer Penny Arcade stood hopeful for the aftermath as the group shared to still be going underway for this coming Labor Day weekend with 2020’s annual PAX West event. With that, the orchestrator stated to continue monitoring new information released by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to determine what will be enacted upon for the approaching event.
Now this week, Penny Arcade has unveiled that both PAX West alongside its later sibling PAX Australia will both be shelved for 2020 as the conditions instated by the ongoing virus has yet to lighten up a clear forecast for both events to commence later this year. However, the group has went to unveil that a new show will be arriving later on through the confines of the internet.
Announcing PAX Online, this new show will operate in mid September offering new games, exiting panels, and other activities you were able to find attending either show in person.
PAX Online is the result of the convention-organizing supergroup made up of the people responsible for PAX West, PAX Australia, as well as our new friends at EGX to create our new PAX Online and deliver a steady 24/7 stream of content, events, discussions, and gameplay.
Oh, and did we say 24/7? We actually meant 24/9, because we’re going to be running this virtual shindig for nine straight days, from September 12th through the 20th.
Unlike its physical counterpart, PAX Online will be a fully free show to anyone with a pulse and an internet connection. Penny Arcade tells that panels will still operate through livestreams as expected with three channels this year to continually shovel out content for users attending the new initiative on the inter webs.
Similar can also be said for esports events that are hosted at PAX shows with shows and tournaments currently underway for the approaching event, Penny Arcade spares. Games can also be found with a new layout as the organizer tells that it is working out “building data trees” to properly shape PAX Online; demo downloads are stated to be available during the show.
Most importantly, decorated merchandise will be available from the two cancelled PAX West & PAX Australia as well as unique items that will only be available via PAX Online, Penny Arcade announces. The group is also in development of crafting intuitive chatting services exclusive to the virtual show to help people find friends of similar interest.
Are you excited for PAX Online later this fall?
