While developer BioWare in past generations were crowned one of the leading teams in the video game industry with the Mass Effect & Dragon Age franchises and before that with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the team has faced a downfall in reputation with the releases of Mass Effect: Andromeda alongside Anthem. With that, there appears to be a fallout of leading developers since.

Originally, it started with lead producer Ben Irving departing. Although not connected to the reception of Anthem, him alongside other profound employees at BioWare stepped out from the team’s shadow after time. Most notably is the leaving of both Mike Darrah and Casey Hudson last fall. Both leading individuals for the Dragon Age and Mass Effect IPs, many fans were distraught to learn the pair were on the way out.

While plans were uncertain for their futures at the time, Hudson this week revealed to be forming a new development team, Humanoid Studios.

Founded by Casey Hudson and talented developers from around the world, we combine excellence in the arts with advanced sciences to deliver the future of interactive entertainment. We believe in hiring great people, empowering them with the best tools and a supportive environment, and providing them the creative freedom to do their best work. We are building something special, and we invite you to join us.

“Humanoid Studios is a new videogame company founded on the axiom that creative freedom and independence lead to better, more innovative games,” an overview reads for the team in one job listing. “We believe in the power of small, agile teams, and a flat organizational structure, where everyone is empowered to make decisions and help drive the project vision.”

In total, Humanoid Studios is hiring for seven roles: Sr. Gameplay Programmer, Sr. Gameplay Designer, Director of Operations, Sr. Creative Director, Environment Artist, Sr. Level Designer, and 3D Artist. Dissecting each listing elaborates on each role for possible candidates as Hudson staffs in efforts for the developer’s first “flagship title.”

Recently, it appears a similar fate is also falling onto Rockstar Games. In that, co-founder Dan Houser after departing from the Grand Theft Auto maker in early 2020 has recently been discovered to be founding a new team, Absurd Ventures In Games. You can read the full report by heading here.
