Developer Bioware for years has been continuously pushing to reach the same heights it met prior to releasing Anthem & Mass Effect Andromeda. In 2022, the game studio made a pledge to do what is necessary to regain the trust it lost for its players. And certainly, the team means business. Already releasing Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the developer confirmed DLC is not planned with focus already set on the next Mass Effect title.
Even more, the team is also restructuring its attention towards in-house IPs. Previously, it was reported that Bioware is to step back from Star Wars: The Old Republic for more resources to be used towards new releases. However, with Mass Effect the next project underway, there is some larger concerns. This is mostly due to the exit of series creator Casey Hudson who left Electronic Arts back in 2020.
Hudson went on to form Humanoid Origin which was founded in 2021. The team while not announcing what the new game will be was at least verified to be an AAA experience set within a unique sci-fi universe. That was until this week where the official LinkedIn account revealed that Humanoid Origin is now closing its doors.
“We’re heartbroken that we will not be able to bring our new science-fiction universe to completion. Our main concern at this time however is for our team, and we are committed to supporting them in their transition to new employment. In our time together, the team achieved incredible progress, and demonstrated that it’s possible to do amazing work while fostering a culture of fun and creativity. We thank them for their talent, courage, and friendship,” the post reads.
“We informed our staff that Humanoid Origin will be shutting down. Despite efforts to shield the studio from broader challenges in the industry, an unexpected shortfall of funding left us unable to sustain operations. Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout our journey.”
