Today, developer Frogwares announces that the team will be pursuing its next Sherlock Homes project with a new title aimed for next year. Instead of the next entry to be a stringing follow-up to the latest Sherlock Homes: The Devil’s Daughter, the Ukraine-based studio will be tackling the titular protagonist’s story with a prequel set during the upcoming of the world renowned detective.
Titled ‘Sherlock Holmes Chapter One’, this new installment will instead share a more personal story of Sherlock Holmes as he learns and hones his techniques towards becoming the prolific character we all know. You can watch the full announcement trailer in the video below:
“You are Sherlock – a 21 year old brilliant, but rebellious young man, itching to prove yourself. When an old wound compels you back to the Mediterranean shore where your mother died, it seems like the perfect opportunity to do just that,” the synopsis for the game reads. “But beneath the vibrant urban veneer of the island, the rhythm of the local life strikes a more ominous beat. Crime and corruption, a twisted sense of justice and morality… These are just a few stumbling-blocks in your quest for truth.”
Frogwares tells that unlike its predecessors, the team will be pursuing the core gameplay in a new way. In the announcement post, the team highlights game changing elements such as ‘global investigation’ which players can utilize to their advantage when collecting information throughout the city. Or another being how enemies are approached using Holmes’ wits and skills to overcome any obstacle at hand.
As for the in-depth perspective of a younger Sherlock Holmes, Frogwares tells that we will surely see a side of the character never really adapted in any entry in the series. Even more, the John Watson we are accustomed to is not present as Holmes’ entourage is replaced by his good friend Jon. But the team warns there is still plenty to learn of the new character.
This new entry will be the first release from Frogwares since the team’s termination for its publishing agreement with Focus Home Interactive. Following the closing of the legal arrangement, the publisher decided to delist its most recent release for the studio. You can read the full report by heading here.
