Although players are still occupied for the time being by isolating themselves from encountering the public to combat COVID-19, this was the perfect time for organization Games Done Quick to host the Corona Relief event to gather funding for those affected by the ongoing situation. Although saddening to learn at the same time that the approaching Summer Games Done Quick was pushed to the following months in August, the opportunity to help those in dire need is always a motive for those who support the event.
This past weekend, April 17 – April 19, Games Done Quick announced that the Corona Relief event has accumulated more than $400,000 in donations within the 60 hours the show was live.
Corona Relief Done Quick has now concluded, and the results are in! Over $400,000 was raised for Direct Relief in less than 60 hours! This marks a new high for our side event efforts!
The organization shared that alike previously-hosted events, all proceeds will be donated to Direct Relief to assist both in the United States and globally in providing necessary equipment and tools to help those in the medical field combat the novel coronavirus. Although the earnings does not match in line with the larger events hosted by Games Done Quick, $400K surely is a hefty donation for those who require the funding.
Throughout the course of this weekend’s livestreamed event, speedrunners played games like Super Mario 3, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD, and Mirror’s Edge to name a handful that were presented.
As for the next event that Games Done Quick will be hosting, this coming Summer Games Done Quick is slowly approaching in just 4 months from now. The summer-set event is scheduled to take place on August 16 and runs until August 23.
What game are you most excited to see be sped through later this summer?
