The after effects of the COVID-19 pandemic that we continue to still live in proved one thing: live event shows are not as necessary as they were years prior. Now with the internet being continuously accessible for across the globe for the medium, attendees and exhibitors can easily participate through a created portal rather than visiting the show floor.
For 2022 so far, it is reported that the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is to be scrapping its return to the Los Angeles Convention Center in favor for another round of a online-held event. Organizer Electronic Software Association has yet to verify the claims to be true or not. Howbeit, not all events are facing the same fate.
Recently organization GAME & Koelnmesse announced Gamescom will be returning to in-person held shows this coming August in Cologne, Germany. Additionally, Geoff Keighley shared that he plans to be hosting Gamescom Opening Night Live as well at the event in Germany as well.
Happy to announce I have signed a new deal to continue producing and hosting @gamescom Opening Night Live.

“All gamescom fans and partners have been waiting for this for two years: gamescom is finally returning to the Cologne exhibition halls, and thus also the unique festival feeling we had all been missing so much. This year we are combining the best of both worlds: our extensive digital program with the incomparable gamescom experience on-site, GAME Managing Director Felix Falk shared.
“In the process, gamescom is also once again setting new standards in 2022, for example, in matters of sustainability: with our ‘gamescom goes green’ initiative, we will make gamescom a special and climate-friendly event together with visitors and exhibitors. We thus want to not only be a lighthouse for the many initiatives for environmental protection and climate action in the international games industry, but also a pioneer for international events in general.”
“We are now finally back again with gamescom – in Cologne and online! And this with a convincing momentum from the games industry. This pleases me greatly. Together we have set up a strong concept, in the context of which we of course also ensure the safety and health, as well as the well-being of all those present,” said Oliver Frese, Koelnmesse COO.
Are you excited for the return of Gamescom to being a live show?
