Video game studio and developing publisher Gearbox Software has a tradition of making a big presence at the annual Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) held in Boston, Massachusetts each year. It was last April in 2019 that the company officially revealed the then-highly anticipated Borderlands 3 to arrive that coming September for current hardware.

Now in the midst of the event arriving in the last week of February, Gearbox Software disclosed the big announcement ahead of the Gearbox Main Theater Show. Unlike the subliminal teases that the company shared the week prior to the commencement of the convention, the developer decided to fully share what is happening this time around.

On Twitter, the Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford announced that Eli Roth (Hostel, The House with a Clock in Its Walls) will be directing the film adaptation of the Borderlands series.

In a report made by Variety, this project has been part of a longer discussion for the past half decade, and will officially commence production in the latter of this year. In conjunction with Arad Productions, Avi Arad (Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse) will posed as a Producer alongside Erik Fieg (La La Land) under Picturestart Productions. Craig Mazin who penned for Chernobyl is also said to have made a draft for the project’s script as well.

Additionally, Gearbox Software founder Randy Pitchford alongside Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick will be pitted as executive producers for the film. The motion picture will be developed in split production between Lionsgate and Arad Productions. Here is what Lionsgate President Nathan Kahane has to share on the matter:
