Google’s official announcement of the tech giant’s entry into the gaming market with Google Stadia surely was an eye grabber: not for players to hop over from their current platform on PC, but on how this new streaming service will ultimately work when it goes live later this November. While first impressions did see some promise, many shared that controller latency to be the weak point for Google Stadia when playing.

Regardless, despite the undermining reception from those vocal about the gamepad delay with Stadia, Google still shares to be confident in the speed of controller input down the line. Speaking with Edge Magazine, Google Stadia Vice President of Engineering Madj Bakar claims that Stadia will have more responsive control outputs in comparison to local play offline.

Ultimately, we think in a year or two we’ll have games that are running faster and feel more responsive in the cloud than they do locally, regardless of how powerful the local machine is.

While Bakar’s claim might come off as outlandish to some, the reality is not off the table for the company. When speaking about Google, it is noteworthy to mention that the company has been rumored to have developed its own foundation of cloud-based technology branded as Project Stream, which we later learned to be Google Stadia.

However, Bakar adds on that the resolution Google plans to implement for those falling behind when playing online will be with “negative latency.” This in laymen terms defines the action of the service to predict your next move upon playing the respected title: i.e. if turning close to a ledge in a racer, the AI will fabricate you falling off the ledge when in reality are still on the track before that moment.

The idea Stadia utilizes to predict the next move of the player although could be a swift problem solver for online latency is however not the first time it has been adopted. Games we already play has some sort of retainer to help players understand the output of others when playing, just not to the degree that Google promises to enforce for Stadia. Seeing if this feature will properly solve the issues that will come ahead for not only Google’s platform but also the gaming market could potentially be a game changer in the coming future,

Google Stadia is set to launch next month in November.
