While many fans awaited such a project to be on the way, Rockstar Games just this month officially announced that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is on the way for modern consoles. In that, the classic titles from era of PlayStation 2/Xbox is returning with what is expected to be revamped visuals and drastically improved controls. More noted is Nintendo Switch is also to find a port as well.

Noted from a previous leak on the project, it was told that the trio of titles is to utilize Unreal Engine 4 rather than the original RAGE Engine built by Rockstar Games. By extension, Take-Two Interactive showed to have a campaign of legal action around the same time of the initial leak with modders finding cease and desist letters from the parent company. A separate update told the game is suspected to ship in November.

On Friday, Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is planned to release in November and presented a brief trailer of the new game with comparisons to the original titles. Physical versions launch on December 7th. You can watch the trailer in the video below:

“Experience the games that started it all — introducing unprecedented freedom and immersion through three living, breathing worlds filled with hilarious action, rich, cinematic storytelling, classic characters, and unforgettable music,” Rockstar Games explains about Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in the Rockstar Wire post.

“Bringing the classic worlds of Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas to modern platforms, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition debuts new GTAV-inspired modern controls, plus across-the-board visual enhancements such as resolution upgrades and improved visual fidelity across the world, and much more to faithfully tune and improve upon all three games, while also maintaining their distinct original aesthetic.”

Most eye-opening about the announcement is that fragments of the game are arriving to monthly video game subscriptions. Xbox Game Pass is to receive Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas at launch whilst PlayStation Now gets Grand Theft Auto III then. It also suggests the games will be available in one bundle or purchased individually.
