Grand Theft Auto V Arrives To PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S This November, Free-To-Play GTA Online Pushed To November

While many joked about The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to be the ONLY game that gets ported to everything, Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V is slowly becoming the shadow of the phenomenon. While the game is more than 7 years-old as of writing, its stands to be the top selling game of the last decade (2010 – 2019). However, that tradition is anticipated to carry over with the previously announced PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S versions on the way.

But, Rockstar Games is approaching this differently for the newest platforms. In that, the online component – GTA Online – will be a free-to-play experience on the latest console hardware. Even more, parent company Take-Two Interactive paved the release for the free multiplayer to kick off this summer with a three-month exclusive deal for PlayStation 5. But, that wait is being extended.

In that, Rockstar Games announces the dedicated versions for PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X|S to arrive this November. And with that, GTA Online is to begin its exclusive pact with Sony Interactive Entertainment this fall rather than the warmer months ahead.

The expanded and enhanced versions of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online are arriving on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with new features and more, on November 11th, 2021. As an added bonus — this summer’s updates to GTA Online will include special benefits for players to take advantage of in these expanded and enhanced versions when they drop.

Plus, in honor of the upcoming 20th anniversary of the genre defining Grand Theft Auto III, we’ll have even more fun surprises to share — including some specifically for GTA Online players. While the standalone version of GTA Online will be available to players on both platforms, this new standalone version of GTA Online will be available for free exclusively to PlayStation 5 players during the first three months.

As to what enhancements will be coming to the new consoles is still left undetermined, rumors have it that the latest Rage Engine version fans experienced in Red Dead Redemption II will be utilized in the version arriving this November. Additionally, parent company CEO Strauss Zelnick also stated that the upgrade will correspond with the capabilities of the newer hardware.

“We actually take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the new release, for the new technology that we’re launching it on,” he explained at the Morgan Stanley conference. Furthermore, GTA Online received some time-saving upgrades thanks to one user within the GTA Online community. You can read the full report by heading here.
