What seemed to be ages ago was the PlayStation 5 showcase. The first viewing that took place in June 2020 introduced anticipated next-generation console owners the newest lineup of games set to hit the system when it drops later that holiday. And without a surprise, Sony Interactive Entertainment welcomed Grand Theft Auto V to be the first game at the livestreamed presentation.
With only an announcement trailer featured for the showcase, players got an overview of the game since its 2013 release with excitement looking ahead on the latest console hardware. Of course, the game will come with an Xbox Series X|S version as well, but PlayStation 5 handles the marketing for the game. More to inquire, however, fans are intrigued as to what other enhancements will be present in this new version.
Already, the game is available via a next-gen remaster for Xbox One/ PlayStation 4. So where does it go from there? Well, according to recognized insider Tez2 on the GTA Forums, Grand Theft Auto V is said to hit the newest consoles with the updated RAGE Engine utilized for Red Dead Redemption II.
Found out new structs that were added with the recent update relating to the standalone version and one of them is “rage::fwuiMessageBase”, which is from RDR2’s RAGE version […] However, it could just be that the UI would utilize RDR2’s base code, while the rest remains the same.
Ultimately, it is gathered that elements such as volumetric lighting, high quality texture work, and even accurate global illumination might be incorporated for Grand Theft Auto V on the newest consoles. The insider does clarify that the new version would simply operate on the base code for the latest build of the engine, so no upgrades from Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to be found for Grand Theft Auto V.
Elsewhere in regards for Grand Theft Auto V for the latest systems, Take-Two Interactive pressed that GTA Online will be free-to-play later this year. The PlayStation 5 version is set to drop in mid 2021 with other platforms to follow three months following. Hopefully the engine upgrade is also scheduled for multiplayer too.
