343 Industries has given some new details on the upcoming Halo 3 2v2 showdown that will be taking place at Dreamhack Atlanta from November 16-18th. They have confirmed that the games will be played on Xbox One X consoles to ensure the best performance and visuals for spectators as well as the players. The tourney will be limited to 64 teams and use a double elimination bracket. Matches will be Best of 3, with Grand Finals using Best of 5. It will also be impossible for Halo 5 HCS competitors to take place in the Halo 3 showdown due to the scheduling. In addition, UGC will be hosting online qualification tourneys to seed the tourney, as well as give cash prizes. 343 also has plans to continue investing in MCC Esports beyond this event and into 2019.
As for the settings for this tourney, they’ll be based off of Halo 3’s MLG v8 settings which include:
- Score to win: 25
- Motion tracker: Disabled
- Starting weapon: Battle Rifle
- The Pit
- Construct (The Slayer variant used in MLG v8 will be used for this, featuring the Active Camo custom powerup)
Microsoft Stores will also be hosting Halo 3 tourneys on October 7th, November 4th, and December 2nd. The top 3 teams at each event will win Xbox Game Pass subscriptions to celebrate MCC making it’s way to the program. MCC will also be getting a Halo 3 2v2 playlist to help players prepare for the upcoming tournaments.
