Halo Wars Definitive Edition coming to Steam, Halo Wars 2 may follow

Last time we sourced Gamecheat13, a user on Twitter who’s a self-described Halo modder, we were given a file including names of upcoming DLC for Halo Wars 2.  Since then, the game has launched a new leader, Kinsano, but we won’t know the leak’s validity until that Banished Campaign comes out.  Today’s news from Gamecheat13 is regarding Halo Wars Definitive Edition and Steam, namely that it will be available on Steam.  Soon.
Gamecheat13 has already fielded some questions regarding their original tweet, especially regarding the authenticity of his comment.  The original tweet is embedded below, and is pretty self-explanatory.

Since the original tweet, Gamecheat13 has continued to tweet about how Microsoft “basically played us” and that the Steam version of Halo Wars Definitive Edition “doesn’t seem to have any Windows Store bullshit linked to it” as it “uses Steam achievements.”  Following these comments, they sent out the tweet below, which is again self-explanatory.

Gamecheat13 has a good track record for leaks, so it’s relatively safe to consider Halo Wars Definitive Edition for Steam a “coming soon” launch.  While it’s great to see Microsoft opening its latest real-time strategy title up to Steam, and while it makes sense to not mention an upcoming Steam release, it will be interesting to see how Steam users and opponents of the Windows Store interact with the launch of the Definitive Edition, as well as any future launch announcements of Halo Wars 2, as many PC users have decried the exclusivity of Microsoft launching titles on the Windows Store.  If the story develops further, we’ll keep you updated.  Until then, or we hear official word of an impending announcement or launch, be sure to stay tuned to Rectify Gaming for the latest.
