Last week, developer Hanger 13 informed it followers that the currently standing Mafia trilogy will be returning with new respected Definitive Editions for each entry. That includes the titular 2002 inaugural title, its following 2010 sequel, and the third installment which shipped later on in 2016. And even before the reveal set to take place today, we already had an idea of the plans that the developer had slated for the Mafia: Trilogy.

Following the initial announcement, two listing emerged: one for Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia II: Definitive Edition. The first shared the exciting return of the near two decade-old title to be shipping in late August. The second listing uncovered that the re-release for the 2010 entry would be available the coming Tuesday, today.

Now during the announcement shared today, both listings were proven to be accurate. Even more, Mafia III: Definitive Edition also shipped today alongside its predecessor. You can watch the full trailer for Mafia: Definitive Edition in the video below:

Learning more about the line of Definitive Editions that Hanger 13 has been churning out over the past several months, the team shared new details on the project. Firstly, the team confirms that all games have utilized the same Havok engine used for Mafia III. And while this does not introduce more to the latter entry initially, Hanger 13 does explain that current owners of the game will receive the Definitive Edition for free. The coming Mafia: Definitive Edition is shared to be a full remake and feature new cutscenes along other gameplay features not introduced in the prior version.

Adding on, the script for the plot and character dialogue has been tuned to soften out some of the rougher edges of the games. But what is most interesting is the tease that Hanger 13 shared elsewhere in a new blog post during the announcement.

”You’ll be seeing more of Mafia: Definitive Edition as August 28 draws nearer, and you won’t want to miss Mafia: Definitive Edition’s presence as part of the PC Gaming Show happening June 6, 2020.” This explains the slim trailer for the August-slated title as the team plans to showcase more later on this June. The PC Gaming Show happens to be one of the remaining mainline events still going live from this year’s cancelled E3.

Exciting new all around, Hanger 13 also made some clarifications for the games. The currently available Mafia II & Mafia III are out for most platforms excluding Stadia which will come at a later time. As for Mafia: Definitive Edition, the team emphasizes that Epic Games Store will be receiving the game at a later date as well which includes the full Mafia: Trilogy also.

What game are you most excited to see ship to newer systems?

Mafia: Definitive Edition is slated to ship to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and PC (Steam) on August 28, 2020: Mafia II: Definitive Edition & Mafia III: Definitive Edition out now.
