It was just this past week that Nintendo made some interesting decisions for its online service. For Nintendo Switch Online, the Japanese company elaborates on how the service will change with the addition of the Nintendo 64 & Sega Genesis virtual libraries. In that, the service will be receiving a new tier alongside a greater price point for those interested. More specifically, the service with everything now will face an increase to $49.99 annually in contrast to its original $19.99 pricing.

Additionally, there is more that is to be offered with the service as well. It was shared then that the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons add-on Happy Home Paradise will be included with the service at no additional cost. The expansion is to ship simultaneously alongside the new November update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons next month.

But according to a statement from Nintendo Support, Reddit user u/Velidae that owners of the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass if the service is not renewed will lose access to the DLC. However, Nintendo does clarify what ever content is used for the base game will not affect your save for the game.

“Players who purchase the Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise DLC can play it indefinitely. For members of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, it is possible to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise for the duration of an active membership,” a Nintendo support representative to the user at the time.

Adding,” In other words, if you are not actively subscribed to the Expansion Pack you do not access. Of course you can purchase the DLC separately.” So in total, the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is only a key for the Happy Home Paradise DLC for Animal Crossing: New Horizons owners and without being subscribe strips you of that port of entry.

However, this does not come as a surprise for what comes from Nintendo. With the launch of Nintendo Switch Online previously, it was determined that users are required to remain active with the service to continue using cloud saving. If not, you digital saves will be inaccessible. You can read the full report by heading here.
