It was just a week ago that the initial report surfaced that Warner Bros. Animation would be concocting a new animated film centered on the Mortal Kombat universe. With promising figures involved with the recent slew of films following the notorious Caped Crusader, the same was expected for this new entry for the series initially crafted by NetherRealm Studios.

Although we do have confirmation that the film would be arriving fairly soon for fans to witness just what this is all about onward in 2020 in late Spring, we do not have much detail retaining what this project is based on or how storytelling will be implemented for the upcoming film. That was until now as IGN was granted the opportunity to debut the first trailer for the animated movie.

Pitting the greatest fighters of both the Outworld and Earthrealm, this upcoming battle of ‘Mortal Kombat’ will determine the fate of the planet as it is left in the hands of these selected combatants. Shang Tsung presented in the trailer to be the antagonist as he is in prior entries of the game series. Alongside him with renowned fighters like Scorpion, Goro, and Quan Chi.

While the defending Earthrealm lead by Raiden as he orchestrates the best participants to keeps the planet in safe hands. Notable fighters like Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, and Jax Briggs are to be expected in undoing what Shang Tsung and protagonist Scorpion have in mind for the future of planet Earth.

Upon the first look at the upcoming film, we also get a glimpse at the box art for the straight-to-DVD movie as shown at the end of the trailer. What are your thoughts on the forthcoming animated film?
