Recently IO Interactive have announced that the Denmark studio will be expanding their team to Malmö, Sweden with a new studio named IOI Malmö. IO CEO Hakan Abrak in the announcement for the new Swedish studio states that the “IOI expansion in Malmö was a natural choice as there is a very strong existing video game industry. I believe it has all opportunities to become the epicentre of game development in Scandinavia”.
On top of not only assisting with the already existing Hitman franchise that IO Interactive currently released and continues to expand on, Malmö will also be working on new projects unrelated to Agent 47.
This will expand our muscles for creating brand-new and exciting endeavours, new universes, new franchises.
When reading the post on the studio’s website, the developer also pushes those interested in joining the team in Sweden with a link to needed positions. Listing some that stand out focus on both online with a Multiplayer Programmer and Senior Multiplayer Programmer. If this implies what could be the first project from the Malmö-based studio, an online-centered title is a possibility.
Reviewing the studio’s development history, multiplayer have been present with a few titles. First with Freedom Fighters back in 2003 and later with the sequel Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days later in 2010. For what the plot of the first title might be if it is an online title is harder to depict as both mentioned games were published under EA and Square Enix: so the rights to make a new title are still property to both publishers currently.
What do you think could be the first title from the new IOI Malmö studio?
