Horizon Forbidden West Aimed For 2021 Release, Guerrilla Games Unveils

Just a week ago, Sony Interactive Entertainment alongside Guerrilla Games officially unveiled Horizon Forbidden West. The anticipated sequel to its 2017 predecessor – Horizon Zero Dawn – would be a unique release to the coming PlayStation 5. During its reveal, neither firms shared when the highly-anticipated follow-up would ship to the next-generation console, so it was best assumed the new entry would not be a launch title to say the least.

But now according to the “Guerrilla Talks” video uploaded yesterday, we now have an understanding of the coming second installment from the Amsterdam team. In that, Horizon Forbidden West Game Director Mathijs de Jonge concluded the video by revealing the game will ship in 2021. “And we’re aiming to release the game next year – in 2021,” Jonge discloses in the video.

Surely, Horizon Forbidden West alike its older sibling release is yet another ambitious endeavor for Guerrilla Games to take on when pushing the boundaries of first-party projects for the PlayStation family. But taken from the wording of the Game Director himself – 2021 is not a definite release window for the next-generation title.

Specifically emphasizing on the use of “aiming” to ship Horizon Forbidden West next year, that does not confirm the definite arrival of the new game. Highlighting on this possibility is derived from the first title as in similarity with its pioneering stature faced a delay which pushed the title to 2017. With that, it is suspected the same could also be faced for the next-generation sequel as well.

Aside from the headline context of the video, Jorge also announces that Horizon Forbidden West will also have “virtually no load times.” He elaborates on the topic by explaining that fast traveling or reloading checkpoints will be done instantly as the PlayStation 5’s custom SSD will process all the high-detailed textures and far reaching draw distances with no hindering attributes.
