Back in fall 2019, two minds of pretty prolific Japanese projects were to collaborate for a new,
upcoming title. In that, Goichi ‘Suda 61’ Suda (No More Heroes, Killer7) and Hidetaka ‘Swery
65’ Suhiro (Deadly Premonition, D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die) were to partner up for a new
project, dubbed Hotel Barcelona. At the time, little was spared on the shape the game would be
Although the duo did press that the project would be honing in on horror as the game aims for
mobile or Nintendo Switch with its $1 million budget. Additionally, Keiichiro Toyama (Silent
Hill, Siren) is also relayed to be involved in the game’s development too. But with the
announcement being before the global pandemic, there has been little to no updates on the state
of the project.
However, at the Xbox Tokyo Game Show presentation, Hotel Barcelona shared its first gameplay
trailer as the game aims to launch next year in 2024. You can watch the trailer in the video
“First of all, thank you all for your interest in Hotel Barcelona. This game is a collaboration
between two creators, myself and Goichi Suda. Although it may look like something out of the
ordinary, we have created a challenging and rewarding action game together. The game is being
developed by White Owls with the team who created The Missing, and we are proud to present it
to you. Please look forward to playing it,” Swery tells Xbox Wire.
He continues elaborating on the new, titular setting for the 2D action side-scroller: “Hotel
Barcelona, the place where all the action takes place, is an integrated leisure complex, featuring
facilities such as a casino and camping ground around the hotel to create a single, living world
with seven smaller worlds inside.
“Due to the fact that Suda-san and I are making the game, the worlds each have some twisted
tricks, and each of them has a serial killer boss. The objective of the game is to somehow defeat
the boss, and clear the seven worlds.” What has you most excited for Hotel Barcelona thus far
from the trailer?
Hotel Barcelona is listed for Xbox Series X|S.
