At the dawn of the PlayStation 5’s launch, there were a few titles showcase to feature what brings the definition for “next-generation”. Among those, Housemarque introduced Returnal, a new metroidvania sci-fi shooter which brings challenging, bullet hell firefights to a new definition. Soon after its release, the team faced an outright acquisition from Sony Interactive Entertainment in June 2021.
Additionally, Returnal went on to ship an expansion for the game growing the overall experience with ‘Ascension’ in March 2022. More interesting is that Returnal also met the quota for being among the titles for a PlayStation PC port. And by February 2023, Housemarque’s Returnal arrived to Steam officially.
In a new reveal to celebrate three years since Returnal arrived, Housemarque & Dark Horse Comics partnered on a new animated comic, ‘Fallen Asteria’. You can watch first issue for the animated comic in the video below:
“Selene must fight for her life against horrific hostiles that live beyond every shadow and a trail of distorted memories. Mystery shrouds the world of Atropos, and Selene begins to wonder: will she find answers at the end of her journey, or is this nightmare inescapable,” Housemarque creative director Gregory Louden told GamesRadar in a statement.
“Returnal: Fallen Asteria is our bold extension of Returnal with a new story following Selene on Atropos from our team at Housemarque with Dark Horse Comics. This is a brilliant graphic novel you don’t want to miss that expands on our dark, deep and beautiful thriller, Returnal.” Housemarque & Dark Horse Comics promises a physical release for Returnal: Fallen Asteria October 22nd later this fall.
