Alike its 2016 predecessor, Doom Eternal pushes the envelope into the ground and smashes its brains – similar to how reception for each game came only bringing appraise on how id Software translated the first-person shooter pioneered title to modern systems. “Doom Eternal embraces that familiarity and refines what all of us expected to a razor sharp edge. It’s faster and the combat is a whirlwind of metal, decision making, acrobatics and precision,” one stanza from our review for the game reads.

And as you would suspected, the market also responded similarly to the amount of impressive changes that came with the ground-breaking sequel. In that, Doom Eternal stood to drastically outsell its predecessor alike Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons; both selling roughly three times its former this past March. But, not everything made it into the final version even after heavy thought from the developer.

In a new statement from id Sotware and Doom Eternal Director Hugo Martin archived from a month-old Twitch stream, he comments on a contemplated addition of a female Doom Slayer.

I’ve thought about it [possibly bringing a female Doom Slayer to the series]. I think if we did it, I’d want it to be lethal. I think it’s interesting how it would impact the Glory Kills and the weapons that she would have. The fighting style certainly [feature] all aggression, absolutely, but a different type of aggression.

I would really strive to have it impact the gameplay in a way that was meaningful. I’ve definitely put a lot of thought into that, actually!

But looking at the potential of a third installment, which is very likely, perhaps we will witness a female lead in the next game. While direction for the series currently is the approaching Part 2 for Doom Eternal’s The Ancient Gods DLC, it might be quite some time until fans have the opportunity to see the opposite sex as a Doom Marine.
