Going back to 2015, it was announced that a film adaptation of Konami’s Metal Gear Solid franchise was in the making. Then following into late 2017, as we almost forgot about the project, it was announced that Jurassic World Writer Derek Connolly will be writing the script for the film.
Along with announcing that Kong: Skull Island Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts will be directing the film. Now more information has been revealed concerning when we will hear more about the upcoming film.
Vogt-Roberts recently partnered with actor Paul Eiding, who voiced Colonel Campbell in the series to create a codec-like thread on Twitter for the 31st anniversary of the franchise. Using his favorite pieces of fan art, Vogt-Roberts clearly states “We must stress that this is, quote ‘fan art,’ and is not meant to represent what is or is not in the forthcoming film.”. 31 pieces of art will be released within a month for #METALGEAR31st.
As the director is a well-known Metal gear fan, he shows his gratitude to be creating the art that might influence film, as said by Campbell:
Generating art based on Hideo Kojima’s seminal characters and world has been a true childhood dream come true.
For if all art to be shown will illustrate what to expect from the upcoming film adaptation, this obviously shows Vogt-Roberts is the right person to have the film in his hands.
❗️Follow and retweet this thread to celebrate the 31st anniversary of @HIDEO_KOJIMA_EN's METAL GEAR with 31 pieces of never before seen nano-machine-infused-artwork.
Tune in every day for new updates. Some surprises along the way…

DAY 1 of #METALGEAR31st
There’s many beautiful+insane+iconic images to come…but I want to start with this piece by Nick Foreman.
The bond we formed via mechs reinforced that we should be loud w/ our love of this franchise as we may find friends & collaborators in the process. pic.twitter.com/5Zj4vRsu5T

DAY 2 of #METALGEAR31st
The impeccable @eddiedelrio_art helped me bring the “Gas Mask Samurai” to life in KONG.
Cyborg Ninja & the Gekkos are two of the most iconic Hideo Kojima + Yoji Shinkawa designs. I wanted to see their potential in the same frame. Wish I could say more… pic.twitter.com/8OCkWH1zvY

DAY 3 of #METALGEAR31st
@BenMauro993 created this for me and I have a good feeling he’s a dude I’ll be working with for the rest of my career.
One aspect of Metal Gear that’s important for me to translate onscreen is the blending of horror imagery with stylized magical realism. pic.twitter.com/HEJCRSCKyK

DAY 4 of #METALGEAR31st
Dennis Chan was one of my art assassins on KONG.
MGS is about the “cycle of pain” so we created a diptych to visually represent history repeating.
Can’t wait for you to see my approach to the dense past & present timeline of this world.
Zoom in. Enjoy pic.twitter.com/Ni0U9IICwh

Day 5 of #MetalGear31st
I worked with the legend @mr_werewolf_art on KONG. He doesn’t do freelance work anymore but we’ve become friends and I convinced him to contribute ‘mood art’ to this project. I truly felt the world needed to see his heavy atmospheric style + Metal Gear. pic.twitter.com/l9I5B3f1xY
